A three-storey corner house of Alfred Kästenbaum-Korsky, PhD, an attorney-at-law, was built in 1913, according to the main design of Viktor Beneš, an architect from Prague. The Kästenbaums (the Korskys since 1913)were a very prominent and wealthy Osijek Jewish family.
GENERAL
A three-storey corner house of Alfred Kästenbaum-Korsky, PhD, an attorney-at-law, was built in 1913, according to the main design of Viktor Beneš, an architect from Prague. This house with the flats to rent has the entrances from two streets (European Avenue and Stepinac Street).The flats were rented mostly to the clerks and other white-collar workers. The family converted to Catholicism in early 20th century, which saved their lives in WWII, except for one of Alfred's sons who joined the Partisan anti-fascist movement and was killed in the battles.
