Julius Pfeiffer House


A large house in Historicism style in the city centre, situated diagonally across the crossroads from famous Osijek Secession sequence of representative houses and villas.

It is a unique house with peculiar small towers in 1-3 Kapucinska Street. It used to belong to Julius Pfeiffer, the prominent owner of a successful printing shop and the publisher of important newspapers and magazines: Die Drau, Osijek Weekly, Slavonian Lloyd, Slavonan Bee etc. He significantly improved the printing businesss in Osijek. He also printed books of Osijek and Slavonian authors, among which the most important is Sketches from Slavonian past by Josip Bösendorfer, PhD, the head of Museum of Slavonia.He was the first in Osijek to have gas and petrol-driven machines.
