The Hidden Gems of Jewish Barcelona

The story of the Jewish community of Barcelona is a fascinating one, but the traces of that history are difficult to spot in today’s city. With the help of this virtual guide, you’ll be able to find those hidden traces as you walk through the streets of Barcelona, exploring the city’s Jewish heritage and its contemporary Jewish reality, all the while applying a critical eye to the narratives that have been built around it. Discover Barcelona’s Medieval Jewish community and learn about the return of Jews to Sepharad, the context of the Spanish Civil war, and the development of Barcelona’s modern Jewish communities. The full tour would last between 2 and 3 hours, and will visit a total of approximately 13 places.

Izmir: The First Juderia

Dating back to the Hellenistic and Roman periods, the Jewish heritage of Izmir exhibits a unique character with its dominant Sephardic traditions of religion and culture. Some preserved, some in ruins, examples of magnificent synagogues built in previous centuries in Izmir, remain today within the First Juderia. They constitute a living testimony to community’s life in Izmir, which was one of the most spectacular of its kind and had the most spiritual and cultural influence on all Jewish diaspora communities in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Centropa Jewish Berlin Tour

Welcome to the Centropa Jewish walking tour of Berlin. We are about to spend about an hour or so together—unless you want to stop into the Centrum Judaicum (or go back to it afterwards)—and we’re going to tell you about Berlin Mitte and its Jewish history: its tumultuous rise, the way it teemed with life, it’s tragic destruction. No, this is not a comprehensive tour but it will give you the highlights. I will be your guide, and my name is Edward Serotta, director of Centropa. At the end of this app we’ll give you links to more on German Jewish history and our institute, too.

Authentic Kosher Havana Tour

Experience Cuba and discover for yourself why this enigmatic
Caribbean island creates such a compelling narrative. Cuba is an
exhilarating feast for the senses! Intriguing architecture, beautiful classic
cars dotting the streets, world-famous drinks and cigars, festive
entertainment, and warm locals who genuinely love hosting contribute
to the amazing atmosphere. While you may not consider a tropical
island as a place steeped with Jewish tradition, Cuba was once the hub
of Caribbean Jewish life. The history of the Cuban Jews stretches back
to 1492. It is believed that Marranos (Spanish Jews who were forcibly
converted to Catholicism) accompanied Columbus on his voyage,
making Jews some of the first Europeans to set foot on the island. Hear
and see the fascinating story of Cuba’s Jews, while soaking in
everything this exotic destination has to offer! Cuba’s authentic flair and
lively spirit are felt throughout every corner of Havana’s vibrant streets
and breathtaking natural sites.

The Israeli Diamond Exchange, holds the title of the world’s largest diamond exchange, and we at Tours4U, boast of being the only company that provides tours of this hidden part of the Israeli economy.

The high stakes and sensitive security of the Diamond Exchange means that all guests of the exchange provide passport identification, fingerprints and photos to be used in facial recognition.

The tour guides you through the birth of a polished diamond, by witnessing first hand rough diamonds being polished into the finest of gemstones, in one of Israel’s diamond cutting factories. We see diamond cutters who have been cutting and polishing diamonds for over 50 years, and are of the best cutters worldwide, busy creating their beloved work.

The tour then takes you through to the highly exclusive exchange trading floor. We comprehensively teach you all the particulars of the IDE. We witness the members of the exchange in animated negotiations, buying and trading Israeli diamonds that will then be sent and sold worldwide.

The last stop of the tour is a meeting with a master diamantaire, Mr. Hanan Savranksy. Hanan is a third-generation gemologist, and an exclusive member of the exchange, whose creations are not only ingeniously designed but are of the highest quality and style.

The cutting of the diamond, the jewelry designs and stone settings are done exclusively by Hanan, making Savransky Private Jeweler’s one of the only jewelry designers whose entire pieces are created, designed and crafted by one person alone.

Visit Kedainia

Jews settled in Kėdainiai in the first half of the 17th century. They were proud of the fact that they were protected by the owners of the town, and were not subject to the jurisdiction of the town. In the 18th century, the Jewish Kahal was one of the greatest and most influential in Žemaitija. The future Gaon of Vilnius Elijahu studied Talmud in Kėdainiai. During the interwar period, Jews were the owners of 150 small companies and stores, they managed a bank, had schools, homes for the elder and orphanages, as well as volunteer firefighter and football teams. At the end of the 19th century, Jews comprised more than 60 percent of the entre population. Three former Jewish synagogues, tent festival Sukot house, and buildings that belonged to other Jews remain here. We remember, cherish, promote and talk about the Jewish community legacy. Duration 2 hours. After the tour, we propose Jewish dish degustation in the restaurant “Smilga”.

Kėdainiai Old Town is a State protected urban monument, one of the seven remaining Old Towns in Lithuania. The town was planned rationally since the end of the 16th century by noblemen Kiškos and Radvilas. Here you will find the old road network and a variety of architectural forms: buildings with Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Classicism features. During the tour, you will learn about the most valuable and interesting object of Old Town. Duration 1–1.5 hours.
