Owner Benny Briga began his soda-making pursuits through a tiny Tel Aviv shop hosting his own apothecary. With a smorgasbord of exotic flavors to experiment with, he began making delicious fermented drinks. Benny since opened the famous Levinsky 41 coffee shop and, more recently, Gazoz.

The fruity, herb-infused creations come served alongside carbonated water to create an enticing soda-like drink. Expect garden fresh herbs and botanicals to accompany each refreshing glass.

Shamouleh

It doesn’t get any more “classic Israeli kitchen” than Shamouleh and the food may put your Savtas cooking to shame. In the early morning, restaurant owner and head chef Shamouleh Nahmias comes into his restaurant to start preparing all the food from scratch. By ten o’clock, mouth watering aromas come wafting out of Shamouleh’s doors. Plates are piled high with rice, meats, and veggies; and bowls of kube are served to the brim with delicious beet broth.

Near the Turkish market in Haifa lies one of the only original taverns in the country. Maayan Ha'Beera is a warm and inviting corner which always attracts a myriad of customers, welcoming them with a warm heart. Maayan Ha'Bira was founded by Nachum, and in later years, was taken over by his son. This go-to hangout is best known for its fantastic beers, and the variety of Eastern European food that is available at the bar, including chopped liver. One of the classic pieces featured at the bar is an ancient beer tap, still serving customers even after 64 years. Maayan Ha'Beera is the place to be on a Tuesday night, with live jazz bands, and a lively, cheerful atmosphere.

The origin story of the modern Israeli Georgian kitchen Deda has roots in a small village nestled in the Caucasus Mountains of Eastern Europe. The main heroine of the story is a woman named Nelly, who grew up watching her mother create delicious and warm stews, pastries, and meats that to her were the epitome of home. Years later Nelly prepared these same recipes in her own kitchen in Israel for her son Gore. He saw how much joy his mother received from feeding anyone and everyone who would walk through her door.. In 2008 Gore decided to pay homage to his mother and expanded her love of cooking by opening the original Deda, in Central Israel.

Chef Eyal Shani is a native Jerusalemite who received his culinary education from his grandfather, a dedicated vegan and agronomist who exposed his grandson to the variety of Israel’s culinary scene.
