My name is *Shai Shvalb*, and I am a professional private tour guide and the owner of *Know the Land*. As a storyteller, I love to lead and guide my guests using my private car in the Land of Israel. I am especially enthusiastic about guiding those interested in history and archaeology, interfaith dialogue and comparison, the Bible, Israeli society, and, of course, Israeli food and markets. I guide in a deep and meaningful way, seasoned with a sense of humor.

In 2019 I published a one-of-a-kind Hebrew English dictionary about the Land of Israel – *Know the Holy Land*. I recently (2022) finished writing the manuscript for my second book in English – *A Bridge to your Roots*. Using my knowledge of the Bible and Hebrew, my book connects Evangelical Christian believers to the Land of Israel, where all the roots of their faith began at the time of Jesus. So stay tuned

I was born in Calcutta to a family with Baghdadi roots; I live in the United States today and speak widely about the Indian Jewish communities–always adding music wherever I go. My tour partner, Joshua Shapurkar, is a member of the Bene Israel community of Bombay and has been leading general and Jewish tours for twenty-five years. Together we have an intimate knowledge of the Indian Jewish communities and close relationships with its members.

You, too, will be treated as part of our broader family. You will meet and interact with community members, enjoy local hospitality, experience India’s magnificent cultural tapestry, and enjoy its rare Jewish treasures. We will attend Shabbat services together in Bombay and Calcutta. I will lead services in the Baghdadi-Indian tradition in the Maghen David Synagogue, where my father was rabbi, and share my memories with you as we walk together through streets and bazaars. I was born on January 20th 1975 in Istanbul and grew up in Izmir. Since my early childhood I always enjoyed travelling and exploring ancient civilisations. I learned English at the American College Institiute and studied tourism and hotel management at Bilkent University Ankara. My Professional Guiding Licence was issued by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of the Republic of Turkey, after graduation. I work as a freelance tour guide all around Turkey. I also guide for Turkish people all around the world and have been to more than 40 countries.

As you see I can understand the needs and wants of international travellers. I am at your service for day tours or a round trip of Turkey. I will make sure to make your stay UNFORGETABLE…

I have been guiding in Turkey since 1997. There are 81 cities in Turkey and I have guided many times in 78 of them. I love our country’s rich history but it’s my passion to help my guests have an amazing time while touring as well as comprehend the details of our remarkable history.

It has been my honor to guide so many visitors here to Turkey including Mr. Ahmet Ertegun, the owner of Atlantic Records, and Father Bartelamaos, the Greek Orthodox Patri Arch based in Istanbul who has taught me a lot about Greek Orthodox history here in Turkey. I’ve also been honored to guide the President of Caraiben islands and the senators of North Carolina & Chicago.

As an English-speaking guide, I have hosted guests from all over the world whose shared langauge with me is English. I am passionate about “out of the way”, cultural, Turkish cuisine, and unique shopping experiences.

Yusuf Savat

Yusuf Savat is the managing director of a travel company located in Kusadasi (Ephesus) and Izmir.
