Tell me morePractically a suburb of Girona, Castello is not far from the tourist destination of Costa Brava. Nowadays, it caters to tourists with a butterfly park, an indoor flying experience and hotels and bars galore. It's a bit of a contrast to its past glory. A positive example of renewal, the Jewish community of Castello was established following the construction of a new synagogue in 1284, which was expanded and restored 40 years later. Interestingly, it was later sold by the community to be converted into a guesthouse. The Museum of Medieval History Court-Prison can offers an in depth look at the period, however its star attraction must be its exhibition of nine medieval Jewish headstones.
